A day of dialogues between artists and neuroscientists, a series of moderated discussions, artistic interventions and celebrations on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Berlin based Association of Neuroesthetics. Founding members of the platform launched in 2008 by Dr. Alexander Abbushi at Charite‘ and leading proponents of neuroesthetics, cognitive science, philosophy, art and poetry will present their researches and their perspective about the need to foster understanding between those fields and to engage in interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and even extradisciplinary collaborations. Borderlands and crossroads, as feminist Chicana poet and scholar Gloria Anzaldúa has been suggesting, even if painful and sometimes treacherous places, are sites for regeneration, nurture and growth. In series of panel discussions and dialogues, the event will present reflections and insights after ten years of long term collaborations, projects and researches at the verge between the arts and the neuroscientists. What does art to us? What role might play neuroscience in the understanding of artistic phenomena? How could a dialogue between neuroscientists and artists be heuristic and not reductive? Can art instill criticality in neuroscientific research?
Contributors (among others): Uljana Wolf (Berlin), Christine Macel (Paris), Semir Zeki (London), Julia Christensen (London), Ernst Poeppel (Munich).
The event will be in English and will be followed by a party.
The day will start at 1.30 pm with an introduction to the history and the future challenge of the AoN, will continue with a series of talks and panels with the evening panel ending at 9.30 pm. From 10pm celebrations will continue with DJ set and a party.
