This round table is part of an event series accompanying the exhibition "The Stuff of Narrative – New Perspectives on Literature", product of a collaboration between EXC 2020 and the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.
In 2015, set designer and illustrator Reem Helou fled Syria and made her way to Europe via the Balkan route. During her journey, she documented her experiences through cell phone photos, Google Maps screenshots, and brief notes; this documentary material formed the basis for the graphic novel Die Balkanroute. At the round table Reem Helou and literary and cultural studies scholar Dr. Rasha Chatta (Freie Universität Berlin) explore graphic storytelling as a form of visual narrative, with a focus on Arab diaspora literature and the circulation of texts and images in migratory contexts.
The round table is moderated by Jun.-Prof. Dr. Jasmin Wrobel (Ruhr-Universität Bochum/EXC 2020).
Admission free. Registration is kindly requested for planning purposes.
The event will be held in English and German.
