At the next seminar of The Dissident Library, we will gather to discuss the life and work of Claudia Pieralli, a Slavic studies scholar who passed away in 2023. Together with Marco Sabbatini and his colleagues and co-authors, we will discuss the concept behind the website Free Voices in the USSR: Independent Literature, Arts and Thought in the Soviet Union and Echoes in the West (1953–1991), a project developed by Claudia Pieralli and Marco Sabbatini, and the volume Letteratura, dissenso, emigrazione, dedicated to Claudia’s memory. We hope to welcome Luba Jurgenson, Professor at the Sorbonne’s Institute of Slavic Studies. Claudia’s archive, which she assembled for her research on Anna Barkova and more broadly on the “poetry of the zone,” is now held there. Maurizia Calusio, Ann Komaromi, and Stanislav Savitski have confirmed their paricipation, and we warmly invite everyone interested to join the discussion.

To participate in the online seminar, please register here.

Languages of the discussion: Russian with simultaneous translation into English.

The event is part of The Dissident Library, a series of online seminars discussing scientific publications on the Soviet dissident movement directed and organized by Olga Rosenblum.
