Details

Drawing upon caricatures about ancient slave traders, early Christian writers portray Marcion as a textual pirate and mutilator of scripture.

There is very little archeological evidence for this kind of slave trader. This lecture by Candida Moss (University of Birmingham) investigates the realities of the Roman slave trade and suggests that a much wider and more educated group of people were involved in trafficking than is generally acknowledged.
