Details

This autumn marks the 30th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. How were art and politics conceived on either side of the wall around 1989? Berlin’s artistic regeneration in the 1990s is well known, but questions persist surrounding the way this came to be. What were the cultural and artistic effects of two systems encountering each other? How did these infrastructures merge? How did the position of the artist differ between east and west?

The event will serve as a launch for frieze’s November/December issue, and will include writers and artists in discussion on these topics. frieze’s November/December issue looks to questions of infrastructure, place and borders. It is conceptually bookended by two cases of real and psychological borders: the Berlin Wall on the one hand, and Trump’s border wall with Mexico on the other.
