For two generations, Syria has been ruled and destroyed by the same family. Therefore, the past does not pass and the future cannot begin. Yassin el-Haj Saleh, one of the most important intellectuals of his battered country, has been struggling for years to portray experiences in which life and death mix indistinguishably. And he enters into a dialogue with texts by Hannah Arendt and compares them with the present. He talks about this with the philosopher Susan Neiman.
