Who is the Artist?

Wer sind die Künstler*innen? Ist die Frage noch aktuell oder geht es inzwischen nicht vielmehr um die biographischen Dynamiken der Kunstwerke? Und wer legt zudem die Antworten fest: die Expert*innen im Museum, die Sammler*innen oder die Kunsthändler*innen? Wie verquickt waren und sind Kunstmuseen und Kunstmarkt dabei im 20. und 21. Jahrhundert? Der interdisziplinäre Kooperationsworkshop fragt nach der kennerschaftlichen Praxis in Museen – im Zusammenspiel zwischen Kunst, Politik und Ökonomie.

Who are the artists? Is the question still relevant or is it not rather about the biographical dynamics of the artworks? And who gives the answers: the experts in the museum, the collectors or the art dealers? How intertwined were and are art museums and the art market in the 20th and 21st centuries? The interdisciplinary cooperation workshop asks about the practice of connoisseurship in museums – in the intersections between art, politics and the economy.
